DR. AISHATH ALI NAAZ

Dr. Aishath Ali Naaz is the Head of Institute (Owner) and Consultant Clinical Psychologist of Maldives Institute for Psychological Services, Training and Research (MIPSTAR). She was honored with the National award in recognition of her services in developing Mental Health Services in the Maldives (2012). She has worked as Deputy Director to the National Narcotics Control Board (2000 to 2005); was a member of the first Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (2003 to 2005).She served briefly as the Chairperson of the Panel for National Harmony, Maldives, (2013) and was a member of the Parole Board, Maldives (2012-2014). She is a member of the Advisory Council of Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Maldives (2013-2014)
She has travelled to 12 of the 19 atolls of Maldives and conducted workshops, trainings and given lectures to over 14000 students; youths; religious scholars, parents, incarcerated youth, community leaders, teachers, policy makers on topics such as preventing gang, domestic, sexual and drug related violence; parenting , communication and life skills; understanding mental illness; preventing drug abuse(1999-2014). She has written a handbook in her local language on ‘Parenting skills to Prevent Drug Abuse’, and is the author of a booklet titled ‘Depression’. She has worked; given lectures, been a resource person and offered consultancy to various institutions in Sri Lanka and India. Dr. Naaz has presented country papers, academic papers, and chaired sessions in conferences, seminars held in USA, UK, Nepal, India, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, China and the Maldives.
She served as the Local Consultant to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, on the Leaders of Influence Program under Asia Foundation, and worked in creating awareness through psychological and spiritual methods on drug abuse, gang violence, child sexual abuse and domestic violence, 2011 to 2013. She was the national consultant and lead researcher of the Rapid Situation Assessment of Gangs in Male’ Asia Foundation Publication, 2012; ‘Prison Assessment and proposed Rehabilitation and Re-integration of offenders’, UNDP publication, Maldives 2011; Rapid Situation Assessment of Drug Abuse in Maldives, UNDP/FASHAN/NCB publication, 2003. She has a PhD in Clinical Psychology (2010), from The University of Manchester, U.K. In her thesis she explored the relationship between psychosis, substance abuse, aggression and violence in a South Asian sample from India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. She has a M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, India (1999) and holds a Msc in Psychology, India (1996); B.A in Psychology, Sociology and English, India (1994) She has a post graduate Diploma in Journalism, India (1995); Diploma in Hypnotherapy (2009, 2010), UK and has attended training on Cognitive Behavior Therapy from the Oxford CBT Training Centre (2010), UK. In the ‘16th International Gang Specialist Training Conference, Chicago, USA, 2013 she was certified as an International gang specialist trainer. She has written 5 novels in her local language on various psycho-social issues, 3 of which received national awards for fictional writing. She writes to local magazines, is a blogger and uses social media as a tool to reach and interact with young people.

Mohamed Thaufeeq is the Director and co founder of MIPSTAR. He is a Telecommunications Engineer by profession and also holds a Master degree in Management from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.
Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Seemanthini TS is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at MIPSTAR. Her areas of expertise include Psychological Assessment, training specific learning disabilities, psychotherapies and Counselling with mood and anxiety disorders, managing the personality disorders, adjustment & behavioral problems. She like working with late adolescents, sexuality and gender issues. She has been awarded Best paper award at National conference (N.A.C.I.A.C.P), held at Chennai for the paper titled - Occupational scenario of Hijidas in 2005.Dr. Seemanthini is a Life Member of Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists, Life Member of Indian academy of Applied Psychology, Life member of Bangalore Psychological forum, and Registered Consultant with Indian Rehabilitation Council. She also has Research Experience over Twelve Years.
